More information

Who provides the Funeral Director Services?

+

Funeral Director Services are provided by Funeral Partners network of Funeral Directors, with over 290 funeral homes across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. On occasions they may also use an extended network of partners. Funeral Partners and Alternative Planning Company Limited (APCL) are part of the Funeral Partners Group.

Funeral Directors are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the provision of ‘at need’ funeral services.

Is there a Unattended Direct Cremation option?

+

Yes, some people choose to have an Unattended Direct Cremation or Burial as a simple alternative to the attended service of a traditional funeral. A Funeral Director’s Professional Services cover all essential arrangements, including guidance with legal and administrative tasks, and organising the unattended cremation/burial. The Funeral Home will collect and transport your loved one with dignity in a non-ceremonial vehicle, and care for them in professional facilities at the funeral home.

Unlike some other providers, Funeral Partners allow families to spend time saying goodbye in our private room/chapel of rest, before the cremation/burial. There will be no one in attendance at the cremation or burial itself. Third-party fees such as crematorium and burial fees will be provided in the estimate.

How much does a funeral cost?

+

Funeral Partners have over 290 funeral homes across the UK. Once you have selected your nearest or preferred Funeral Directors to conduct the funeral, you will be provided with a full estimate of costs. Pricing is variable by Funeral Director location, and third-party fees such as burial and crematorium fees will be set by the third party at your chosen location.

Typically, the cost of an attended funeral will include the following elements:

– Professional Services
– Collecting and Transporting the Deceased
– Care of the Deceased
– Ceremonial Hearse, Staff and Limousine
– Coffin
– Third-Party Fees (These may include crematorium or cemetery fees, minister or celebrant fees, doctor’s fees for a cremation in Northern Ireland)
– Plus, any additional Funeral Director Products and Services such as costs for embalming, additional limousines, specialist hearses, reception of the coffin into church or home, urns, ashes caskets, keepsakes, jewellery, flowers, orders of service booklets, etc

Depending on the type of funeral package you select, exclusions and inclusions will be explained, and a full quote will be provided.

What is included in Professional Services?

+

This includes taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements. Someone from the Funeral Home will meet with you and your family to discuss the funeral arrangements and will provide guidance on all the practical and legal documentation required, such as how to register the death. They will organise the funeral service, committal and the after-funeral reception, as required. This includes making arrangements with the crematorium, cemetery or church, and reception venues, as appropriate; liaising with your chosen minister or celebrant; and for any additional services as required, depending on the type of funeral package you select.

The Funeral Director and branch team are available to provide help and guidance 24 hours a day.

Coffin choices

+

There is a wide selection of veneered and solid wood coffins in a range of finishes, coffins made from other natural materials, personalised picture coffins and American-style caskets to choose from.

Collecting and Transporting the Deceased

+

The professional, trained Funeral Partners team will collect the deceased from the place of death or other location and will bring them into care in a private ambulance or other suitable vehicle, with dignity and respect. Additional charges may apply for bringing the deceased into care outside of normal working hours or for distances of more than 15 miles from the premises.

Ceremonial Hearse and Staff
Depending on the type of funeral package you select, on the day of the funeral, a modern motor hearse (or other appropriate vehicle, if applicable) will convey the deceased to the crematorium or cemetery. For an attended funeral, Funeral Director and staff, including up to four pall bearers, dressed in the appropriate livery, to conduct the funeral, will also be supplied.

Ceremonial Hearse, Staff and Limousine
In addition to the above, a chauffeured limousine(s) carrying up to six passengers can be provided, depending on the type of funeral.

Care of the Deceased

+

The Funeral Home will tend to the care and preparation of the deceased before the funeral in appropriate, high standard, professional facilities. They will also dress your loved one in their own clothes or in a suitable gown.

Viewing the Deceased at the Funeral Home
Use of a Chapel of Rest, or private rest room by appointment, for family and friends to spend time with the deceased, as required.

Disbursements and Third-Party Fees

+

Disbursements and Third-Party Fees
Disbursements are payments made to third parties on your behalf. These may include crematorium or cemetery fees, minister or celebrant fees, doctor’s fees for cremation etc., depending on the type of funeral.

Additional Funeral Director Products and Services
This includes embalming, limousines, specialist hearses, reception of the coffin into church or home, urns, ashes caskets, keepsakes, jewellery, flowers, orders of service booklets etc., depending on the type of funeral.

Are funerals services regulated?

+

Funeral Directors are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the provision of ‘at need’ funeral services (i.e. the services carried out when funeral arrangements are made at the time of need).

If you are redeeming a pre-paid funeral plan, the Funeral Plan Provider will be authorised and regulated by the FCA.

All Funeral Directors within the Funeral Partners network are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), reflecting their commitment to high professional standards and adherence to the NAFD’s Funeral Director Code. In the event that a complaint cannot be satisfactorily resolved, the NAFD offers a free and independent dispute resolution service.
