Julie Adams, a Pre-Need team member at Choice HQ in Torquay braved the Autumnal elements and carried out an 11 mile coastal trek from Brixham to Torquay in aid of a little boy called Oscar.  Oscar has Spastic Diplegic Cerebal Palsy and Charity Just4Children are fundraising for a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which will give him the independence he strives for.  Oscars Happy Feet need to raise £50,000 for this important life change

Oscar is a very happy, cheeky, loving little boy with a sense of humour to match. He takes everything in his stride and is very fiercely independent.  Born 10 weeks prematurely, Oscar finally came home after 8 weeks in hospital. At 18 months Oscar was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebal Palsy, which means he has increased muscle tone in his legs causing stiffness, difficulty with movement, coordination and balance. He has to use specialised equipment and has daily physio to help him be independent.

A procedure called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is life changing surgery that Oscar is a good candidate for but is not currently available on the NHS. Without this surgery he will loose more of his independence and more than likely need a number of invasive surgeries.

On her sponsored walk, Julie was joined by her 9 year old son Jack and other family and friends.  Oscar himself even joined the team from some of the walk making the whole journey even more special.

“I am lucky and have a healthy, happy and cheeky little lad called Jack however not everyone is as fortunate. Jack wanted to help raise funds for a little boy named Oscar. His idea – to swim the channel! Instead we agreed a sponsored walk might be better”.

The event raised over £140 for the charity and brings the total raised so far to over £11,000.  If you would like further information or would like to donate to help get Oscar his happy feet he so desperately needs, click here https://just4children.org/children-helped2018/oscars-happy-feet/
